Liliana the babysitter

For the first time yesterday, we had to leave Dylan with a "stranger" and it was so hard walking away from him. Of course, I called her almost every hour and made Mike call to check in on Dylan. I gave her a list of ALL of our phone numbers, and special instructions - as if she's never taken care of a child before. =)

But it turned out to be a good experience for us. We liked Liliana from the first time we met her and it helped that she was highly recommended by others in the neighborhood. There is also a little baby girl there with him so it at least allows Dylan to socialize a little bit. At the end of the day, we even got a "report" card on Dylan. hahaha Our little spoiled boy wouldn't let her put him down for his naps. According to Liliana, Dylan was happiest when she carried him and cried everytime she put him down. Hopefully she won't quit on us.

But boy, when did babysitting cost so much $$$$? Maybe I'll just stay home and babysit kids in the neighborhood!!!

The good news is that Mike will be starting to work in NJ next month which means we will hopefully just need Liliana once in a while.

Greatest Little Gadget

Dylan loves his mesh feeder. It's super messy but he enjoys eating from it. It keeps him occupied while Mike and I have dinner. We have put ice cubes, peach, watermelon and banana.

Happy Anniversary to us!!!

11 years ago today, Mike and I started what turned out to be the best thing we ever did.

Through all the laughs, hugs, kisses, cries, arguments, yelling, and disagreements... we're so glad we stayed together and continued to share in each other's lives.

After all these years, we are still in love and now we have a little somone that always remind us the meaning of unconditional love. Dylan definitely makes it all worth it. How can anyone resist this little handsome baby....

BaBaBaBa...

Since Dylan was 5 months, he's been "saying" babababababa. But lately, it's just non-stop - in the car, at the mall, at church, and even at 3 o'clock in the morning!!!

We're working on getting him to say "mamammamama" or "dadadadadada" (Although I'm secretly hoping he says "mamamamama" first haha)

Dylan and Ate Cece

Although it was a short visit, we enjoyed spending time with King, Rachel and Cece.

We already miss them!!!
Our two favorite cuties.....

Dylan's first time swimming

Last week Dylan and I (Mike stayed home) went to AC with my mom and Tommy to meet King, Rachel and Cece. We had some free time in the morning so we went swimming for a little bit. It was Dylan's first time and he absolutely enjoyed it! My water baby LOVES to swim!!!!

Of course, I took lots of pictures.

He's a natural in the pool.

Check out his swimming skills

Get on your feet....

I still have to hold his hand, but he pretty much has good control and balance.
This little guy will probably walk before he ever crawls! He has no interest in crawling whatsoever. Plus he hates tummy time which makes it even harder for him to learn to crawl. Hhhmmm.. should we baby proof already???

Our First Play Date

Today, I brought Dylan to a play date. My busy schedule lately has made me feel extremely guiltly about not spending enough time with him. I figured since we spend less time together now than before, I should at least make the best out of it. I want to expose him to other kids and have him socialize.

One thing I discovered during our playdate was that Dylan does NOT have enough toys. He was so mesmerized with the other kid's toys. I was telling Mike about the toys Dylan played with and so this weekend we might just have to take a trip to Toys R US. We certainly don't want to deprive our son of toys hehehe.

Since we both enjoyed our playdate, I will attempt to do them every other week... regardless of my busy work and school schedule.

Here he is before our play date - with his freakishly big Uggs (from Ate Cece).

The Adventures of the Sippy Cup

"Ooh.. is this a new toy? "

"I dunno.. it doesn't look like a toy"

"Let's see... there's this long nipple looking thing"

"Maybe I'm suppose to suck on this part."

"Hmm.. this is harder than I thought"

"AAHHHH... Got it!!"

"I think I like the toy better"

"Actually, I much prefer my thumb."

Let's talk Lent...

Mike and I always try to give up something for Lent and for the past five years or so, we've actually been pretty successful. This year, we came up with a list of things to give up. Yup, that's right.. more than one thing!

- no food/snacks after 10pm (This was a bad habit started during my prenancy.)
- no TV during the weekdays when Dylan is awake (Really more for me than Mike. I just don't think it's a good thing for Dylan to stare at the TV. No matter how I position him, he always manages to find the TV. It would be replaced with more quality time with Mommy like going for walks, playing outside, etc)
- no pasta, white rice, white bread, ice cream, cake, cookies, and other yummy, but carbs. I can have certain "healthy" carbs though since I'm still breastfeeding. Mike, on the other hand, should give up carbs all together, don't you think?

Now for Dylan - We're hoping he gives up his middle of the night feeding(s). Let's see how that turns out. =)

So if when you see us, we're all a bit cranky, it's probably because we haven't had carbs in days and Dylan has been denied his 3am feedings.

Baby Food

One of Dylan's new favorite thing is eating solids. We started with rice cereal when he was 5.5 mths and he wasn't a fan of it at all. Most of it ended on his bib or around his mouth. And it didn't help that I wasn't very good at feeding him with a spoon. I have to admit that Mike was much better at it than me.

When we started to mix in fruits and veggies, he couldn't get enough of it. He loves sweet potatoes. We try to hold off on giving it to him even though they are his favorite because the gas is just too much! Oh, and don't even get me started on the poop.

Here are pictures of his first spoonfuls.

"What is this, Daddy?"

"Oh, GROSS!!!"

Since starting him on solids, I decided to make baby food since it's so much cheaper and a lot healthier. It's also pretty easy to do. Now, we've got a freezer full of avocados, squash, and sweet potatoes. Next, I gonna try carrots, peas, and spinach. hhhmmmm yummy!

He's Officially a Big Boy

Since Dylan was born six months ago, he has been sleeping in our room - in his bassinet or sometimes in our bed, or even on us (!!). Mike and I have been putting off the day Dylan had to start sleeping in his own room. As much as we loved having him in our room and, at times, in our bed, we had to transition him into his crib, mainly because he outgrew both his bassinets. It was bound to happen... at some point.

The night we finally decided to try having him sleep in his room was a lot harder on me than him or Mike. I made Mike check the motion monitor at least 10x, and the windows 5x. I was paranoid that someone would go through the window and steal our baby.. seriously!!! Every noise I heard through the video monitor woke me up. Needless to say, I was up every hour checking the video monitor just to make sure he's still there and he was OK. Every night for the next three days were just as bad. Mike, of course, just snored away!!! It was definitely tough having him leave our room.

Now that we are a little bit more used to having him sleep in his room, Mike and I are actually enjoying having our room all to ourselves. We no longer have to tiptoe at night, we can watch TV with volume (we've actually become expert caption readers), and we can have conversations at night without having to whisper.

All in all, Dylan is happy in his room. As soon as we walk in his room in the morning, he is all smiles and laughs. He sleeps much better - waking only once at night. Mike and I, although we still talk about having him sleep with us on weekends, love our little freedom at night.

It bitter sweet - our baby is officially a big boy!

Teething Bites!!

For weeks, we've been trying to take pictures of his two front teeth.

Attempt #1 : "No mommy, I dont wanna show my teeth"

Attempt #2: Almost... but not quite!

Attempt #3: Finally got it! And how appropriate is that onesie he has on....
